Landings of Minnetonka, a Meridian Senior Living community, is both excited and proud to announce their upcoming Open House which will be held August 25, 2016 from 4pm to 6:30pm. This Open House event will showcase their brand new Certified Butterfly Garden. A Monarch Butterfly Release is scheduled for 6pm during the Open House. The Butterfly Garden is located in their courtyard area and will be the main attraction at this event.
For a Butterfly Garden to be certified by the North American Butterfly Association, they must meet the following strict requirements:
- At least three different native caterpillar food plants must be grown, preferably more than one plant of each selected species.
- At least three different native butterfly nectar sources must be grown, preferably more than one plant of each selected species.
- The use of pesticides is discouraged. Pesticides can kill butterflies as well as other important pollinators.
Formed in 1993, the North American Butterfly Association (NABA), a not-for-profit membership organization, is the major North American organization promoting conservation of butterflies and their habitat. NABA focuses its efforts on educating the public about the importance of butterflies and their habitats and on conserving butterflies, both to the benefit of humans and our environment.
Landings of Minnetonka, located at 14505 Minnetonka Drive in Minnetonka, plans to share this exciting new garden with the community and expects this will bring in many area residents and seniors to enjoy the butterflies in a natural habitat setting.
Attendees will enjoy delicious food and refreshing beverages along with a chance to win a night’s stay at the highly acclaimed Nicollet Island Inn.
