Shamrock today announced the release of its new paper Explanation of Benefits (EOB) reconciliation solution. This will enable hospitals, health systems, physician practices and other healthcare organizations to eliminate the time-consuming, costly and error-prone tasks typically associated with manually reconciling paper EOBs.

Traditionally, healthcare organizations bill for their services and then receive paper EOB hard copies back from insurance companies and government programs like Medicare and Medicaid. Billing personnel then painstakingly go through each line to make sure there are no discrepancies and that they have been compensated for services rendered. They also scan the EOBs into the process and content management system, such as Perceptive Content from Lexmark Enterprise Software and OnBase by Hyland, and manually index it with the correct patient records in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
Shamrock’s new solution transforms this slow, manual process into a fast, automated one. Now, the paper EOB is transformed into a representation of the classic EDI data exchanged among systems and uploaded by a VPN to a secure virtual machine controlled by Shamrock and hosted on Microsoft’s lightning fast Azure platform. The system extracts line item data and sends back an ADI file that’s automatically imported into the ECM system. The line item information can then be quickly and easily reconciled, without the time and hassle of the old solution. Shamrock’s solution ensures that patient information is encrypted, and the entire process is completed without the hours of user time that used to be spent on each EOB.
As Shamrock’s EOB reconciliation solution is hosted, customers only pay for what they use via a transaction-based pricing model.
