About the Outdoor Film Festival:
Started in 1996, the Washington, DC Metro Area Outdoor Film Festival was the first major outdoor screening event in the United States. The event began on the grounds of the NIH Charities and remained there until the events of 9/11 eliminated public access to the grounds of NIH. The Film Festival then moved to several other locations and in 2013 found a home on the MCPS Board of Education property. Now, thanks to DTA Global, the magic days of yesteryear are back as the Outdoor Film Festival returns to its most popular location on the grounds of Strathmore in Montgomery County, Maryland.
About the NIH Children’s Charities:
The NIH Children’s Charities sponsored by the Film Festival include: The Children’s Inn, a private residence for pediatric patients and their families at NIH; Special Love, which provides cancer families a network of support including retreats and outings known as Camp Fantastic; and Friends of the Patients at the NIH, which provides emergency financial assistance to help patients and their families.
