SoundofMotion Releases 1° Precision 3D Magnetic Sensor for Olympic Sports
Vancouver, Canada (PRWEB) September 15, 2016 -- Olympic heroes inspire people to get up off the couch and take up active lifestyles in running, cycling, rowing or paddling. Many are taking physical activity a step further by participating in multiple competitive sports. Nearly all of these athletes use some kind of tracking device to help gauge their training. Smartphones and smartwatches provide a computing platform for activities, but they require sensors to measure and produce motion statistics.
SoundOfMotion has engineered the first 3Dmagnetic Smart Sensor that utilizes Earth’s magnetic field to provide accurate metrics for multiple sports. The company has launched a crowd funding campaign with products set to ship to backers beginning March 2017. The first 100 sensors are offered at a discount for $20.
"I've always been passionate about sports and active lifestyle." said Vlad Savchenko, the inventor and founder of SoundOfMotion. "While attempting to measure my performance I ended up with a bag of sensors: foot pod for running, speed and cadence sensors for cycling, sensor for tennis, stroke sensor for swimming and one for rowing. Why can't I have one sensor which reliably measures all my activities?"
There are many motion sensors on the market. Most use an accelerometer or gyro. SoundofMotion’s 3Dmagnetic Smart Sensor uses Earth's magnetic field sensing technology to provide a single, consistent motion detection multi-sport sensor platform for many sports. It can measure speed and cadence when running or cycling, kicks while swimming, strokes in rowing or paddling, and swings in golfing or playing tennis.
The 3Dmagnetic Smart Sensor also detects the angles of pivotal motion with 1° precision. In contrast to an accelerometer, the magnetic field sensor consumes very little power and not susceptible to a shock or vibrations. Furthermore, the sensor’s smarts, its firmware can be updated instantly over-the-air from a smartphone so athletes can switch between different activities in seconds using the same sensor.
The 3Dmagnetic Smart Sensor opens new doors for Internet of Things. It can accurately measure the angle of swinging door or window. It can be used as a wireless temperature or light control for home applications.
The sensor provides universal mounting for shoes, limbs, oars, paddles and other equipment, amounting to an inexpensive $29 sensor. The company also provides SDK for developers to constantly innovative with new applications using 3Dmagnetic technology.
SoundOfMotion Technologies Inc. was founded in 2007 by Vlad Savchenko, a multi-sport athlete who has 25 years of experience in IT and holds multiple patents related to various sensing technologies.
