Target Data Appoints Industry Veteran Michael Mathias as Chief Strategy Officer

Chicago-based data-driven marketing services firm creates new executive position to oversee aggressive growth into new markets and expanded cross-channel campaign capabilities

Data-driven marketing services firm Target Data has hired a new chief strategy officer to lead the company’s aggressive growth into new markets with expanded omnichannel solutions.

Industry veteran Michael Mathias, a former executive at Acxiom and Merkle, brings 25 years of experience in growth strategy, database and digital marketing, and customer relationship management. Mathias will oversee company strategy, sales and marketing at Chicago-based Target Data, which has grown 100 percent over the past 12 months.

Mathias’ deep industry knowledge and experience in accelerating high-growth companies will help Target Data continue to build on its recent momentum, which includes the launch of expanded capabilities that unite online and offline data sources to acquire and retain customers across channels.

Founded in 2007, Target Data has recently invested heavily in new product development and a more robust go-to-market strategy. The company’s sophisticated targeting platform merges clients’ first-party data with third-party household data to help clients understand who are their most valuable customers. Modeling is then used to identify prospect audiences that are then activated through cross-channel marketing campaigns, including direct mail, email, programmatic display and mobile.

Before joining Target Data, Mathias served as managing director of FindLaw, a Thomson Reuters company. Earlier in his career, he held senior executive positions at Acxiom and Merkle, both leaders in enterprise data and analytics. Mathias earned a bachelor's degree in English from Occidental College and a master’s of business administration degree from the Carey Business School at Johns Hopkins University.
