District 19 Democratic Candidate Augie Ribeiro Speaks out about Environmental Issues in Pinellas and Hillsborough County
Saint Petersburg, Florida (PRWEB) August 21, 2016 -- Democrat Augie Ribeiro – a candidate for Florida State Senate District 19 – attended the West Central Chapter of the Democratic Environmental Caucus yesterday, where he spoke out about environmental issues impacting the Pinellas and Hillsborough areas.
Ribeiro is a strong advocate for more environmental protections and renewable energy:
“Rick Scott and the Republican party have been slowly undermining protections to our drinking water, including lowering water quality standards and pushing for dangerous fracking throughout the state, which will introduce poisonous chemicals into the aquifers,” said Ribeiro.
“It’s critical we do not elect a State Senator that is helped into office by the same polluters they need to fight against. I am not taking money from these polluters so as to maintain independence and carry on that fight without any potential conflict of interest,” said Ribeiro.
Ribeiro has also pledged to support solar energy by voting for Amendment 4 (or the "Yes on Four" campaign), which promotes the expansion of solar energy and the lowering of overall energy costs.
Additionally, he has signed the "Now or Neverglades Declaration," an environmental campaign to increase storage, treatment and conveyance of water south of Lake Okeechobee.
As a trial lawyer, he represented three local Tampa Bay Cities against BP related to the 2010 Oil Spill. He also represented numerous local fishermen after the local Tampa Bay Waters and Gulf Coast shores were devastated by the environmental destruction the oil spill caused.
