Paso Robles Heater Repair specialists issue report on heater safety
Paso Robles, CA (PRWEB) September 11, 2016 -- With fall approaching, many people are making calls to have heaters installed in their households. Heaters can be very useful in any household, but as with everything, there are always precautions to be taken.
Heating equipment is a leading cause of house fire deaths; almost half of home heating equipment fires take place during the months of December, January, and February.
Today, Paso Robles heater repair specialists Cristal Air & Emergency Service issued a report on 5 steps to prevent heating equipment-related disasters.
1. Never use an oven to heat a home. While this may be a no brainer, one should never use an oven to provide heat for a household. Most common household gas ovens release the deadly gas carbon monoxide and when used for heating can poison those in the household. In addition, if the house is unventilated, starting another fire can cause combustion.
2. Keep flammable objects away from heaters. The heat put off by portable space heaters can cause fires if the heater is close to any flammable objects. Things to keep away from heaters include drapes, blankets, upholstery, and other cloth materials. Place heaters on the floor only, do not place them on furniture.
3. Carefully supervise pets and children around heaters; perhaps even keep them away if possible. As can be predicted, these appliances reach extremely high temperatures and can cause severe burns on pets or children. In addition, if knocked down this can result in a house fire when coming into contact with flammable objects. For example, a portable heater placed on a carpet can quickly put a family in danger when knocked over by an excited pet or curious child.
4. Turn off all space heaters when not in use. One should always turn off heaters before leaving a room or when they are not being used. If using a heater to warm up a room before bed, turn the heater on for 20 to 30 minutes prior to going to bed, and then safely turn it off and unplug it to prevent overnight disasters.
5. Make sure the plug fits firmly with the outlet. A loose plug can overheat and can often times cause a fire. Even when functioning normally, the plug may heat up. In this event, unplug the heater and call an expert to have it examined. Using a hot cord or plug is a certain recipe for disaster.
