The Libman Company Donates 700 Mops to Baton Rouge Flood Victims
Arcola, Ill. (PRWEB) August 23, 2016 -- The Libman Company has donated more than 700 of its heavy-duty cotton deck mops to aid Baton Rouge flooding victims affected by last week’s flash flood. Libman is working with BREC, the parks and recreation agency of the Baton Rouge area, to get the brooms in the hands of flood victims.
The Baton Rouge area was hit hard when prolonged rainfall in southern Louisiana resulted in catastrophic flooding that submerged thousands of houses and businesses. And now as the water recedes, homeowners are returning to their homes to start cleanup efforts.
“The damage from this flash flooding is devastating and we want to provide some assistance to homeowners,” said Andrew Libman, president of The Libman Company. “We’re working together with BREC to as quickly as possible get mops into the hands of those that need them,” he added.
“We are so grateful for the outpouring of support that we are receiving from around the nation,” said BREC Superintendent Carolyn McKnight. “Our community has moved from search and rescue to the backbreaking work of clean-up and this incredibly generous donation from the Libman Company will make a huge difference as thousands of residents across our area are working around the clock to clean out the remnants of the flood and get their homes and lives back in order,” said McKnight.
The effect of the August 13 flash flooding has left over 110,000 homes in the Greater Baton Rouge area damaged in the flooding and, according to the Red Cross, has been characterized as the worst U.S. natural disaster since Hurricane Sandy in 2012. Thousands of Louisianans were forced into shelters, with more than 11,000 in state-operated shelters.
