Their mission to recognize and understand differences, and celebrate strengths and individuality resonates with my own values. I look forward to working with this talented group."
SKLD is also proud to announce the receipt of a $5000 grant from the Fred J. Epstein Pediatric Care Foundation in support of the Fred J. Epstein Youth Achievement Award. This award is given annually to one student with learning disabilities for outstanding dedication and achievement. In 2012, the award was named to honor the legacy of the late Dr. Fred J. Epstein, the world-renowned pediatric neurosurgeon who developed groundbreaking surgical techniques to save the lives of children with brain and brain-stem cancers. He spoke frequently about his own learning disabilities, and was honored with the SKLD Community Service Award in 2005.
In addition, Total Pediatrics, a Kentucky-based organization providing special needs therapy and care, has named SKLD as one of the 115 Best Resources for Parents of Children with Special Needs. Total Pediatrics cited SKLD’s efforts to “educate, guide and inspire parents...to help parents realize their children’s significant gifts and talents, and to show that with their love, guidance, and the right support, their children can live happy and productive lives."
