What Foreign Tourists Find Most Intriguing About Korea
(PRWEB) September 09, 2016 -- A survey conducted by Korean tourism agency Cosmojin Tour Consulting, Inc. asked foreign tourists what surprised them the most in South Korea, and by far, “Wi-Fi” topped the list, ranking with a whopping 55% among participants. Right behind Wi-Fi was public transportation, the culture of cutting food with scissors, cheap and good quality cosmetics, and the Korean Demilitarized Zone, or DMZ.
Cosmojin Tour’s R&D lab conducted surveys from June to mid-July with 706 foreign tourists on behalf of the Foreigner Tourism Protocol Professional Agency, asking them what amazed them about South Korea.
The prevalence and speed of Wi-Fi in Korea surprised some tourists, in particular foreign tourists in their 30s. Some participants in the survey noted that although they had made use of their SNS and had used GPS to find their way between accommodations, restaurants, and the like, even during a nine-day trip their data usage did not exceed 50MB. Their Wi-Fi use, however, was over 2GB.
After Wi-Fi was Public Transportation, with 19% of participants, then “Culture of Cutting Food with Scissors” with 13%, “Cheap and Good Quality Cosmetics” with 7%, and finally the DMZ with 6%.
According to foreign tourists, "The fast speed and [access to Wi-Fi] free of charge, with flexibility in public places, tourist sites, subways, and Incheon airport astonished us." Additionally, they stated, "It was very practical to search for historic facts about tourist sites and its meaning in airports and subways. The Korean Wi-Fi is the best."
Cosmojin’s president Jeong Myeong Jin said, "Some things obvious to us, such as the free Wi-Fi in public and cutting meat with scissors, strike foreigners as something exotic and surprising. As the interest in Korean culture is growing, we need to nurture our characteristics and advantages as a tourism resource."
