I hope readers gain the understanding that the special needs population has a great capacity for worship

Doris C. Clark’s new book, Simply Faith Hope & Love, ($9.99, paperback, 9781628390940; $4.99, e-book, 9781628390957) was created to provide a meaningful prayer and devotional opportunity for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, older adults with cognitive problems and for children at a third grade reading ability. Each page contains a simplified scripture, a comment about that scripture, a simple prayer and an icon (art by Abby Detrich) to help the user find that page.
Mrs. Clark has been writing and working in this field since her son Tim’s graduation from high school in Austin, Texas in 1985. Suddenly, there was no place for him – an adult with Down Syndrome – during Sunday school. After much prayer and research, she decided to start a class for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities at her church. When she looked for curriculum, little was available. She wrote her own and her outstanding ministry was begun.
When she looked for a devotional book to meet the needs of her students, she could not find one. That is how this book was born. The scriptures were too long and complicated with too many thoughts and ideas on each page. The print was too small and the words were too difficult to understand. She decided to write her own book designed for the needs of her students. This book is the result – and makes a great gift idea for individuals, Bible School teachers and churches.
“I hope readers gain the understanding that the special needs population has a great capacity for worship,” states the author. “They are capable of learning and understanding God’s love and direction for their lives if they are provided with the appropriate tools for learning. It is my prayer that the Holy Spirit will open these scriptures to all who study them and fill each life with Christ’s love.”
