Nearly 2,500 Students Statewide Choosing Colorado Connections Academy Schools for High-Quality Online Education in the 2016-17 School Year
Durango, CO (PRWEB) August 29, 2016 -- Colorado Connections Academy schools, full-time, tuition-free statewide online public schools, welcomed nearly 2,500 students for the start of the 2016-17 school year. Colorado Connections Academy @ Durango, authorized by the Durango School District 9-R, kicked off its inaugural school year after being approved earlier this year for students in grades K-10, while Colorado Connections Academy @ Mapleton, authorized by Mapleton Public Schools, started its 15th school year for students in grades K-12. Both schools are supported by Connections Academy and are open to students statewide—enrollment remains open for students in grades K-12, regardless of where they live in Colorado.
“We are thrilled to kick off the start of a new school year with a talented and diverse staff of highly qualified teachers at both schools ready to serve all of our families,” said Colorado Connections Academy school leader Chaille Hymes. “This year is particularly exciting with the opening of Colorado Connections Academy @ Durango, as we now have a presence and partnership on both sides of the Rockies, allowing us to serve Colorado students regardless of geographic location. Both virtual schools share a common goal—to ensure that students become productive, successful, and confident in school and in life.”
Online Learning Program
Colorado Connections Academy schools combine Colorado-certified teachers, an award-winning curriculum, technology tools, engaging electives, and social experiences to create a supportive and successful online learning program for families and students who want an individualized approach to education. As a public school, there are no fees or tuition to attend and all students are required to take the same state assessments as traditional public school students.

Learning from home, students work closely with licensed Colorado teachers using detailed daily lesson plans that can be personalized to meet individual student needs. A parent, or another adult “Learning Coach,” monitors progress in the home. An online school approach serves a wide range of students, including those who are significantly ahead or behind in the classroom, those who need a flexible schedule or learn at a different pace from their peers, and those who need more individualized attention or live in isolated rural settings. Homebound and previously home-schooled students can also thrive in the Colorado Connections Academy program.
Colorado Connections Academy @ Durango was approved earlier this year to serve students across Colorado in grades K-10 for the 2016-17 school year, with an additional grade level added each subsequent school year. The Colorado Connections Academy schools will be overseen by Hymes, and assistant principal Amy Davis will be the site administrator for Colorado Connections Academy @ Durango.
Grand Opening Celebration
A grand opening celebration for Colorado Connections Academy @ Durango will take place on Tuesday, September 13 at 4:30 p.m. Located at 150 Tech Center Dr., Ste. C and D in Durango, the celebration will include a ribbon cutting ceremony with remarks from distinguished guests, an opportunity to meet school staff and teachers, and a chance to interact with other families. Families are also invited to attend an open house after the ribbon cutting ceremony, to receive tips about establishing a daily routine, navigating the online learning platform and utilizing available resources. Enrolled and prospective families are welcome to attend, and are encouraged to RSVP online as space is limited.
Enrollment will remain open for the 2016-17 school year for students in grades K-12 statewide. Interested families are encouraged to visit Colorado Connections Academy’s website to learn more about both school options and attend an online information session.
