Chicago’s Shapiro Siblings Launch Annual “Let’s Put Our Heads Together” Fundraiser to Support Families Living With Brain Injury
Chicago, Illinois (PRWEB) August 31, 2016 -- Brain Research Foundation (BRF) today announced that siblings Lauren Shapiro Mandel and Joe and Jonathan Shapiro have organized the first annual event—a September 8 fundraiser at the Godfrey Hotel—to support families living with brain injury and illness and to fund BRF research initiatives.
When just children, their mother was stricken with a rare brain aneurysm that left her permanently mentally and physically disabled. The young family experienced fear, isolation and strained relationships within their community as a result. As they learned to manage their new reality, they were able to build stronger bonds among themselves and negotiate their lives with a renewed sense of strength and compassion.
“Our goal with 'Let’s Put Our Heads Together' is to educate and support families who endure the unique hardship of brain illness and injury,” stated Lauren Shapiro Mandel. “We envision two components to this initiative: the first is to build a community to support families that have to manage this very difficult path, as my brothers and I experienced; The second component is to increase the funding of neurological research through BRF, which is immensely important.”
Tickets to the fundraiser cover food and drinks and one raffle ticket. The raffle will feature over 40 prizes from The Langham Chicago, Virgin Hotels, Second City, Soul Cycle, GT Fish & Oyster, Shred 415, Brooklyn Boulders, Beatrix, Revolution Brewing, and others. 100 percent of the proceeds from “Let’s Put Our Heads Together” will go towards neurological research.
