LakePoint Indoor Facility Earns Merit Award from ENR Southeast Best Projects

Projects were evaluated on the project team’s ability to overcome challenges, as well as the project’s construction and design quality, safety record and contribution to the industry and community.

ENR Southeast announced the winners of their 16th Annual Best Projects for 2016. They named two of Gilbane Building Company’s projects, LakePoint Indoor Facility and Rice Creek School, as merit award winners in their respective categories Sports/Entertainment and K-12 Education.

The LakePoint Indoor Facility in Emerson, Georgia, boasts the largest continuous display of competitive hardwood flooring in the world and is the largest indoor sporting facility in the Southeast. The 170,000-square-foot facility, built for LakePoint Sporting Community, features state-of-the-art clear-span, column-less floor space. The year-round event space can convert the 12 hardwood basketball courts to 24 volleyball courts utilizing automated tilt-down equipment built into the ceiling to reconfigure the space. The multipurpose Indoor Facility is designed and equipped to host conventions, executive events and tradeshows.

Rice Creek School is located on a 27-acre Greenfield site in Port Wentworth, Georgia. The new 142,000-square-foot prototype school was constructed for Savannah-Chatham County Public School System as a replacement school for the old Port Wentworth Elementary School.

The new facility includes:

  • Classroom and support space to accommodate 1,000 students with additional capacity for future growth.
  • Centrally located media center, dedicated music and art classrooms, science labs, and state-of-the-art dining and food preparation facilities.
  • Full gymnasium designed to be a shared facility for use by civic and community groups. The project was completed on time and within budget.

Two separate, independent judging panels made up of industry representatives collectively reviewed more than 90 project submission located throughout the Southeast region of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Puerto Rico. Projects were evaluated on the project team’s ability to overcome challenges, as well as the project’s construction and design quality, safety record and contribution to the industry and community.
