A destination stop all fall is the Community Orchard located just north of Fort Dodge, Iowa. Here families and friends gather to enjoy all the fun of fall and attend the Apple Fest activities.
The Scarecrow Contest is also a favorite attraction as the businesses and non-profits are asked to bring out their best in scarecrow decorating. Categories include the Traditional Harvest Figure, Humorous Scarecrows and the Celebrity Scarecrows.
Traditional Harvest Figure category is your typically old-fashioned figures constructed from throw-aways. Clothing, hay, stuffing, burlap, farm implements, or farm produce (corn husks, vegetables, pumpkins) are just a few ideas for the traditional scarecrow.
In the Humorous Scarecrow entry, visitors are sure to smile and giggle at the creativity in these fun scarecrows. Current events that may include a Presidential Candidate or two, storybook characters, cartoon figures, crazy characters, or out-of-the-ordinary situations are just a few ideas that will be on display.
The imagination comes out in the Celebrity Scarecrows. Scarecrows from a modern day celebrity or one from the past. Materials used may include metal, plastics, ceramics and more.
Entries must be pre-registered and set up by September 23rd. Winners are announced on September 24th. Prizes are award to the 1st Place Business or Non-Profit and the 1st Place Family entry.
