California Wine Month Finishes With Santa Maria Valley Winemakers Featured in Bakersfield Wine Tasting Series
Bakersfield, CA (PRWEB) September 06, 2016 -- It’s no secret that California's Central Coast vineyards and wineries are popular weekend destinations for Bakersfield residents throughout the year. In conjunction with California Wine Month, five wineries from northern Santa Barbara County will bring their wines to Bakersfield for several public and private tasting events in September.
Participating wineries range from small, boutique producers like Riverbench Vineyard and Winery to familiar brands such as Cambria and Nielson by Byron. One of Santa Maria Valley’s oldest producers, Foxen Winery, will be pouring along with relative newcomer, Presqu’ile Winery.
“So many wine lovers from Bakersfield visit our vineyard tasting room in the Santa Maria Valley,” said Laura Booras, general manager at Riverbench. “This is a great opportunity for them to bring friends and try our wines in their own backyard.”
The first public event is a seminar on blind tastings at Imbibe Wine and Spirits Merchant on Wednesday, Sept. 28 at 6 p.m. Winemakers will help participants of all experience levels discover the nuances of still and sparkling wines relying only on the senses.
On Thursday, Sept. 29, local hospitality professionals and guests of the Padre Hotel will be treated to a special winemaker meet and greet, along with a tasting of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in the Prospect Lounge starting at 4:30 p.m. Attendees will learn about typical flavors and aromas resulting from the unique alluvial soil and foggy climate of the Santa Maria Valley.
That same evening, beginning at 6 p.m., The Mark Restaurant will host a food and wine pairing in their banquet space. The restaurant’s chefs will help local wine enthusiasts explore their palates by matching Santa Maria Valley wines with both classic and adventurous food pairings.
“Last year, we piloted a similar event series in Ventura with great success,” said Wil Fernandez of Central Coast Wine & Food. “We’re very excited to be collaborating with the top Bakersfield wine shops, hotels and restaurants to to build awareness of Santa Maria Valley wines.”
