New forensic science mystery novel “The Mystery of the Lost Avenger” is a hunt for answers about a WWII-era plane crash

As a forensic science teacher, I just knew I had to write a story that incorporated forensic investigation skills in an exciting way, especially featuring a positive role model for young girls like Annie Tillery.

A suspicious note from a WWII era plane crash involving her great-grandmother leaves Annie Tillery wondering: Why did the plane crash in the mountains of Appalachia? What does this note mean?

Annie Tillery is the investigator in the new mystery thriller for kids and teens by Linda Maria Frank, “The Mystery of the Lost Avenger.” Annie’s great-grandmother, Charlotte Wheeler, was a test pilot for Grumman aviation. When a plane mysteriously crashes in 1943 and a note from Charlotte is found many years later, Annie is drawn into an investigation with enough twists to keep pages turning until the very end.

“As a forensic science teacher, I just knew I had to write a story that incorporated forensic investigation skills in an exciting way, especially featuring a positive role model for young girls like Annie Tillery,” Frank said.

In the process of Annie’s investigation, “The Mystery of the Lost Avenger” also reveals the true history of the courageous women performing the crucial test flights for planes during World War II. Incorporating this true historical element gives the story an added educational appeal to educators and parents alike.

“Through the way Annie scours her family history and pieces together information to find the truth, I hope readers can tag along for the mystery and find a sense of adventure for themselves,” Frank said.
