Hotel and Restaurant Foundation’s 2016 Fall Hospitality Scholarships Application Cycle Now Open
San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) September 14, 2016 -- As of this week, the Hotel and Restaurant Foundation (HARF)’s 2016 Fall Application Cycle is officially open. HARF is now accepting online applications for scholarships to continue hospitality studies at accredited California colleges and universities. These merit-based scholarships are aimed at helping emerging leaders in California’s hospitality industry pursue their education through financial assistance, mentoring, and recognition.
Scholarships can be used to pursue any hospitality degree-advancing program, including study abroad experiences offered by their colleges, and past recipients attribute the HARF scholarships with faster advancement in their hospitality careers. As Francisco Carrasco, a HARF Hospitality Scholarship recipient and current HARF Board Member described his experience in the program, “The HARF scholarship enabled me to focus not only on my education, but also on gaining valuable experiences in the hospitality industry… [My] experiences were crucial in my education and growth, and I will always be grateful for the support from the Hotel and Restaurant Foundation.”
All current students attending an accredited 2 or 4-year college or university in California who are pursuing Associate’s, Bachelor’s or Master’s degrees in culinary arts, hospitality, or tourism management are encouraged to apply by the October 9 deadline. All applicants must have at least a 2.75 overall GPA for all coursework completed or at least a 3.0 GPA for all culinary arts, hospitality, and tourism management courses completed, as well as previous verifiable hospitality industry work experience.
To enter themselves for consideration, students must submit an up-to-date resume, transcripts, and a no more than 500-word essay on what inspired them to pursue a career in the hospitality industry. Those applicants chosen to move on in the scholarship competition will then be invited to a panel interview with hospitality industry leaders on the scholarship selection committee. Final awardees will be chosen based on their leadership capabilities, industry experience, extracurricular activities, clarity of personal and career goals, and communication skills.
HARF scholarship recipients will be introduced to donors and the industry at an awards event held in San Francisco in the fall. New recipients of HARF scholarships will have the opportunity to connect with past awardees at this time and make connections that can last a lifetime. “As one of the largest hospitality scholarship granting organizations in the country with an almost $3 million endowment, HARF is proud to have a positive impact on the future leaders of California’s hospitality industry through our many scholarships, and we are excited to see which leaders will be joining our scholarship program this spring,” says Michael Pace, HARF's Board President and Area General Manager, West Coast, Morgans Hotel Group.
