Weldaloy to Host Ground Based Interceptor Ballistic Missile Defense Mission Meeting for the Michigan Aerospace Manufacturers Association (MAMA)
(PRWEB) September 13, 2016 -- On September 21, 2016, Weldaloy will have the honor of hosting The Michigan Aerospace Manufacturers Association (MAMA) briefing on the scope of the Ground-based Midcourse Defense (GMD) system project. The meeting will be held in Weldaloy’s new office space that contains a state-of-the art training facility in Warren, MI,
which is located just outside of Detroit.
Speakers at the event will include Mr. Riki Ellison, Chairman of the Missile Defense Advocacy Alliance, Mr. John Simmons, Managing Partner of The Roosevelt Group, Mr. Daniel J. Shanahan, Senior Manager, GMD with Boeing Strategic Missile and Defense Systems, and Ms. Champagne Bell, Manager, Small/Diverse Business & Strategic Alliances, Boeing Military Aircraft, Global Services & Support, Phantom Works and Commodities & Services.
Topics for the meeting will include the potential economic impact on the region in which missile fields will be located, Boeing’s supply chain requirements, how local companies can participate, and what expectations there are for suppliers, as well as what it takes to become a supplier.

The Ground-based Midcourse Defense (GMD) system is designed to detect, intercept and destroy long-range ballistic missiles during their midcourse phase of flight. It provides early detection and tracking during the boost phase, as well as midcourse target discrimination, precision intercept and destruction of the target through the force of collision.
Officials estimate the project will have a $3.2 billion positive impact on Michigan's economy, including the addition of 300 new jobs directly and up to 1,800 jobs indirectly.
