New York Ophthalmologists Dr. Paul Sforza and Dr. Michael Gold Join Medical Staff at North Shore Eye Care
Little Neck, New York (PRWEB) September 15, 2016 -- Long Island’s fast growing comprehensive eye care provider - North Shore Eye Care, a division of SightMD – continues to broaden their ophthalmic coverage across New York with the announcement today of the addition of leading New York eye surgeons Paul Sforza, MD and Michael Gold, MD to their impressive medical staff, according to Jeffrey Martin, MD, Managing Partner of North Shore Eye Care.
“As we continue to establish our presence as New York’s premiere comprehensive ophthalmic provider, it is important that we enhance not only the quality of our medical staff with specialists like Dr. Gold and Dr. Sforza, but also improve patient access to leading edge eye care,” said Dr. Martin. “We could not be more pleased with the addition of two more of our industry’s finest ophthalmologists to our impressive medical staff.” Dr. Gold and Dr. Sforza will be working out of North Shore Eye Care’s, a division of SightMD new Little Neck practice in Queens.
Dr. Sforza is a former Chief of Corneal Surgery at SUNY-Downstate Medical School and continues to train tomorrow’s eye surgeons in the most advanced microsurgical techniques at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Downstate Medical School. Dr. Gold was the former Chief Resident in Ophthalmology at the King’s County-Downstate Medical Center and received numerous ‘Teacher-of-the-Year’ awards as a clinical instructor for the Northwell Health Ophthalmology Residency Program. He is currently a Surgical Attending with the Northwell Health System.
“In addition to their medical training, what impresses us most about Dr. Sforza and Dr. Gold is their dedication and commitment to sharing their expertise with the next generation of eye surgeons completing their training,” said Dr. Martin.
Dr. Gold grew up in nearby Brooklyn and earned his undergraduate degree in Biological Sciences from the State University of New York at Binghamton. He completed his medical degree from the New York State Program at the Sackler School of Medicine in Tel Aviv University in Israel and then returned to his hometown of Brooklyn to continue his training with an internship in Pediatrics at Brookdale Hospital Medical Center, where he completed his ophthalmology residency. Since that time, Dr. Gold has been in private practice as a comprehensive ophthalmologist specializing in cataract removal and lens implantation, glaucoma management and YAG Capsulotomy laser treatment after cataract surgery.
Dr. Sforza graduated with honors from Harvard College then earned his M.D. from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. After completing a medical internship at Lenox Hill Hospital, he performed his residency in Ophthalmology at the prestigious Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas at their nationally acclaimed medical center. He then returned home to New York for additional subspecialty training in cornea and refractive surgery at North Shore University Hospital, a NYU Medical School Affiliate.
Dr. Sforza is still actively involved in academic medicine and is dedicated to furthering the training and surgical experience of young physicians preparing for a medical career in ophthalmology. “I enjoy teaching medicine as much as I enjoy practicing it,” Dr. Sforza. “I have been very fortunate throughout my career to have been guided and trained by passionate physicians dedicated to furthering medical excellence through education,” he said. “That had a profound effect on me and I look forward to paying-it-forward as I continue my career here at North Shore Eye Care, a division of SightMD.”
Dr. Gold is a board-certified ophthalmologist, a Diplomate of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and an active member of the New York State Ophthalmology Society. “I am excited to join the medical staff of North Shore Eye Care, a division of SightMD,” said Dr. Gold. “They have and excellent team of physicians and eye care professionals who provide patients with access to some of the best ophthalmic care in the Metropolitan area and the most modern and advanced technology.”
Dr. Gold pointed out that North Shore Eye Care’s persistence on caring for patients in the most compassionate and complete manner is consistent with the personal attention he provides each and every patient. “It is my guiding principle to never dismiss a patient until I have completed and addressed their concerns and answered all of their questions.” He also committed to maintaining frequent communication with patients’ primary care physicians to ensure status updates are provided and that there are no gaps in their care.
In his spare time, Dr. Gold is an avid road cyclist, frequently engaging in 100-mile rides. He also enjoys reading – most biographies and history – and following his beloved New York Mets. “I seem to live and die by the Mets,” he said with a smile, “and have done my part to pass on the frequent pain of being a Mets fan to both of my children.”
