Savannah Dental Solutions Offers a Complimentary Sedation Consultation in October
Savannah, GA (PRWEB) October 18, 2016 -- For people with a fear of the dentist, sedation dentistry can be an ideal solution. Throughout October, Savannah Dental Solutions is offering all prospective patients a complimentary sedation consultation.
According to Savannah Dental Solutions, there are three types of dental sedation.
Nitrous Oxide
Also known as laughing gas, nitrous oxide is the mildest form of sedation. Patients simply wear a mask over their noses to deliver a controlled mixture of oxygen and nitrous oxide. This provides a sensation of deep relaxation, but the patient remains awake and in control, making it a good choice for those who fear being put under. The effects wear off very quickly when the mask is removed, allowing the patient to drive home.
Oral Sedation
Those who need something a little stronger than nitrous oxide can choose a pill such as Halcion or Valium. Depending on the dosage, oral sedation is mild to moderate. Patients can still respond to the dentist’s instructions, but are not consciously aware of exactly what is happening. Some people actually fall asleep in the dentist’s chair, but are easy to awaken. Oral sedation leaves lingering grogginess, so patients will need to bring someone to the appointment to drive them home.
IV Sedation
IV sedation can be moderate or deep, according to the patient’s wishes and the dentist’s professional judgment. Most people under IV sedation feel very tired and somewhat out of it, and falling asleep is common. IV sedation has lingering effects that can last a full day, so it is important for patients to arrange for someone to not only drive them home, but also remain with them for the next several hours.
According to Chad Schnabel of Savannah Dental Solutions, "Moderate Conscious Sedation (MAC) is what is normally provided at our office, and it is quite common for that patient to not remember their procedure. We have a CRNA that comes at times to provide general anesthesia for longer and more complicated cases."
Prospective patients who are interested in receiving a complimentary sedation consultation are encouraged to call Savannah Dental Solutions at (912) 354-1366.
