Public Relations Advocate for Online Book Piracy Awareness Leads Second Crusade for Authors to "Check Their Books" This October

The First Annual Indie Author Day, October 8, 2016

Indie Author Day on October 8, 2016 is a great time to check your books.

Rhonda Rees, Publicist of the Year, author and advocate for online book piracy awareness is staging another “check your books” PSA campaign to correspond with the first annual Indie Author Day on Saturday, October 8, 2016.

She will also be appearing before the Conejo Valley Writers Group in Thousand Oaks, CA, and will be discussing public relations strategies for authors, and online book piracy issues.

During the month of October, she is encouraging authors and publishers to run detailed Google and Bing searches to see if their work is compromised by being offered for “free” without their knowledge or permission. She wants them to plug in the title of their book, or books, the author’s name, and the words ‘free downloads’ to see what comes up.

Unfortunately, this is a subject that Rees knows about first-hand. Her US copyrighted, trademarked, registered and award-winning book, “Profit and Prosper with Public Relations®: Insider Secrets to Make You a Success was being offered as a free download on several sites without her consent. https://www.amazon.com/Profit-Prosper-Public-Relations-Rhonda/dp/0982223501

Rees is far from the only one that this situation is happening to. Countless other unsuspecting authors across the globe are also left vulnerable to these unscrupulous Internet thieves. “It’s not just the famous recording artists and celebrities that are being ripped off anymore. Instead, online book piracy is having an impact on the average person in a very big way,” says Rees.

For over two years Rees has been working non-stop to help raise public awareness for this very important, but little-known topic. The Bulldog Reporter publication named her their Publicist of the Year winner in their Stars of PR competition for her efforts. She was also honored with an IRWIN (Industry Recognition of Writers in the News) Award for Publicist of the Year by the Book Publicists of Southern California.

Rees has lent her voice by appearing in the media on numerous radio podcasts, TV, and on YouTube. http://beyondthebookcast.com/taking-on-the-book-pirates/ She has also contributed many feature articles including one for IP Watchdog, a leading Intellectual Property law blog on the Internet. http://www.ipwatchdog.com/2016/03/10/crusade-against-online-piracy/id=66902/ Her aim is to continue to educate the public, and to open up a dialogue between authors and publishers, organizations, law enforcement and policy makers. She offers suggestions and tips, and outlines what they can specifically do should they find themselves in this difficult situation.

After her talk on Indie Author Day, October 8, 2016, she will continue her fight against the online piracy of books. Rees has made contact with the Global Intellectual Property Center (GIPC), a division of the US Chamber of Commerce, the Authors Guild of America, the Copyright Clearance Center, the MUSO Company, the Piracy Trace Business, and numerous organizations such as the Independent Book Publishers Association (IBPA), The Book Publicists of Southern California (BPSC), and the Small Publishers Artists and Writers Network (SPAWN).

The first annual Indie Author Day this October 8, 2016, is a time where libraries across North America will host local events, and will come together at 2 p.m. Eastern time for a digital gathering that will offer inspiration, information and advice for authors from publishing industry specialists. This event will bring the indie writing community together through the library system both physically and digitally. http://indieauthorday.com/blog/indie-author-day-announcement/
