Center for Pet Safety Announces Pet Travel Crate Certification
Washington, DC (PRWEB) September 28, 2016 -- The Center for Pet Safety, the 501(c)(3) research and consumer advocacy organization dedicated to consumer and companion animal safety, today announced the addition of Pet Travel Crates to its landmark certification program.
Center for Pet Safety continues its scientific approach to pet product safety in the U.S. market with the release of the Pet Travel Crate Crash Test Protocol and Rating System that provides essential guidelines for pet product manufacturers. The test protocol, which is a result of the 2015 Crate Crashworthiness Study (http://www.centerforpetsafety.org/test-results/crates/2015-crate-study-results/) conducted by Center for Pet Safety (CPS) and sponsored by Subaru of America (http://www.subaru.com/pets/pet-causes.html), outlines a consistent test methodology and evaluation program to ensure “crash tested” pet crate performance is measured using a uniform test methodology and ratings system.
“The Center for Pet Safety worked with passenger safety experts to analyze data returned from our 2015 study to understand what pet crate products designed for vehicle travel should do to protect life,” said Lindsey Wolko, founder of Center for Pet Safety. “The overall findings from our efforts indicate a disturbing trend regarding crash testing claims where the product performance does not substantiate the safety claims made by the manufacturer.”
The CPS Certification Program launched in July 2014 with the publication of the Harness Crashworthiness Test standard. In July of 2016 the program was expanded to include pet travel carriers. The certification is a voluntary program allowing manufacturers to obtain an independent product evaluation. Products that meet the rigorous testing requirements qualify for a Safety-Certified Seal on their product packaging. Interested manufacturers can contact [email protected] or call 800.324.3659.
