Louisburg College Goes the Extra Mile to Protect their Athletes by Testing with Wimbledon Health Partners
Boca Raton, FL (PRWEB) September 28, 2016 -- Wimbledon Health Partners, the industry leader in on-site diagnostic testing for athletic programs and physicians, completed inaugural cardiovascular testing on incoming student athletes at Louisburg College, a two-year school located outside of Raleigh, North Carolina.
“We wanted to bring this testing to campus to make sure we are doing everything we can to prevent any type of cardiac event in our athletes,” stated Alyssa Rabert, Athletic Trainer. “We take care of our athletes really well at Louisburg, and we believe it is important have as much information as possible about their health so we can take the necessary precautions to keep them safe.”
Support for the cardiovascular testing was widespread among athletic training staff, coaches, and students throughout the college—some who have been touched personally by sudden cardiac death.
“I am a huge supporter of the cardiovascular testing performed this fall on campus,” stated Jay Koloseus, Head Track and Field/Cross Country Coach. “Working in an endurance sport, this testing is one way we can stay ahead of any potential issues and further treat and protect our athletes. Hopefully it will become more prevalent for athletic departments across the country.”
Testing performed by Wimbledon Athletics resulted in a higher than expected number of abnormal findings. Most of the conditions identified are not going to keep the students from playing, presently, but provided important information nonetheless.
“In 20 years down the road, when these issues could become problematic for our players, they will already be aware and will know what to do. That is invaluable,” said Rabert.
Wimbledon Athletics plans to return to Louisburg College next year to continue its testing program. Rabert believes that cardiac testing will soon be a required component of the pre-participation physical evaluation process and is pleased that Louisburg has already taken this important step.
