Swords to Plowshares Announces Open RFP for Veteran Focused Artwork
(PRWEB) September 29, 2016 -- Swords to Plowshares is celebrating its 9th annual SHOUT! For Women Veterans and Service Members exhibition in 2017 with an open call for women artists who have served or are currently serving in the military. SHOUT! 2017 aims to elevate the voices and experiences of women veterans and service members through artistic expression and by raising public awareness to the issues they face.
This annual event, which will take place March 16, 2017 in San Francisco, explores the intersections of art, community, health, and healing and is attended by hundreds of community supporters each year. The theme of Shout! 2017 will be “Self and Transition,” which seeks to illuminate the experiences of women veterans and service members as they begin and end their military service.
In our open call for proposals, we ask women artists to artistically express in what ways they find strength and how do they build resiliency during times of change? In what ways have they felt vulnerable or experienced difficulty adapting to civilian, family, or military life? In what ways have their perceptions of self been altered or transformed by their service?
Swords to Plowshares will be accepting project proposals through October 30, 2016 and four artists will be selected by November 18, 2016. The four artists selected will receive a $500 stipend to be used towards the creations of their project. Shout! 2017 will consider all mediums of art and will even consider work that has already been created if it pertains to the theme. Artist selections will be based on creative interpretation of theme, level of professionalism, and ability to commit to all deadlines and event requirements.
