“In the US, more than six pedestrians die in traffic accidents every day, and the leading cause is a lack of visibility,” explains Laura Tilus-Korhonen, the Founder of safeandbright LLC.

safeandbright LLC, a US distributor of Scandinavian safety products, today announced the availability of high-intensity safeNbrite safety reflectors in the US. safeandbright LLC has secured distribution rights in North America with Safety Reflector Finland Oy to distribute the world’s first high-intensity prism-based pedestrian safety reflectors manufactured by Coreplast Laitila Oy, Finland.

According to the 2016 annual study from the Governors Highway Safety Association, the number of pedestrians killed in traffic crashes in the United States last year jumped by an estimated ten percent, the largest year-to-year increase since the statistics started being tracked four decades ago. Pedestrians now account for about 15 percent of all motor vehicle crash–related deaths, up from 11 percent a decade ago, the report concludes. The study also notes that 72% of the pedestrian fatalities happened after dark.

“In the US, more than six pedestrians die in traffic accidents every day, and the leading cause is a lack of visibility,” explains Laura Tilus-Korhonen, the Founder of safeandbright LLC. “Traditional reflectors and reflective clothing are often too weak to provide any meaningful protection. With safeNbrite high-intensity reflectors, our mission is to dramatically improve U.S. pedestrian safety.”

In Finland, 55% of pedestrians used safety reflectors in low-light conditions in 2014, and fatal pedestrian accidents were down 33% over the past ten years (http://www.liikenneturva.fi).

safeNbrite reflectors are made for everyday use for everyone—for dawn bikers, dusk walkers, commuters, school kids, and grandparents. Backpacks, strollers, dog leashes, purses, bike seats, wheelchairs, clothes, key chains, and even mailboxes are all great places for your safeNbrite. Laura Tilus-Korhonen notes, “For families with children, it has been a part of Scandinavian culture for decades to ensure that children use safety reflectors, hanging from their backpacks or clothing. I am confident that it is possible to significantly improve pedestrian safety in the USA as well.”

“We are thrilled to partner with safeandbright LLC to make our products available in the USA,” says CEO of Safety Reflector Finland, Jutta Vainio. “We are impressed by the passion and dedication of the safeandbright team regarding improving pedestrian safety and look forward to building a long-term partnership.”

Unlike traditional safety reflectors, safeNbrite’s unique hard prism structure reflects light back with extremely high intensity (800–3000 C.I.L. – Coefficient of Luminous Intensity). Drivers using headlights will be able to detect a cyclist or pedestrian using a safeNbrite reflector from a distance up to three times farther than they would a person without a safeNbrite reflector, giving the drivers extra time to react.
