HHS Selects The Health Collaborative to Advance Improvement to Health Data Exchange
Cincinnati, Ohio (PRWEB) October 01, 2016 -- The Health Collaborative has been chosen to work with U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to improve the flow of health data. The cooperative agreement was announced today by the Office of the National Coordinator (ONC) as part of the High Impact Pilot program.
The Health Collaborative will be designing and testing a health data exchange process that overcomes some of the barriers doctors and hospitals have in getting complete information about a patient’s medical history. This is a particular problem when a patient has a medical emergency away from their hometown. In critical moments, a patient’s medical history can speed up the diagnosis and get the right care to the patient faster.
Patient’s medical records are often available from regional Health Information Exchange (HIE) services but the treating medical team needs to know where to request data. If the patient is not conscious, or forgets about a past episode, those data requests will be hit and miss, waste valuable time and may be missing key information.
For this project, The Health Collaborative, will be teaming with members of the Strategic Health Information Exchange Collaborative (SHIEC) to create and test a concept called “Patient Centered Data Home”. This network of networks will be designed to retrieve data broadly, without the care team knowing where the records reside. So a patient having a heart attack in Cincinnati, who lives in Indianapolis, spends summers in Michigan and had an emergency three-years ago while on business in Tennessee, could have her complete record available to her Cincinnati treatment team.
The Health Collaborative and partner organizations will share the $270-thousand dollar project award for the 12-month effort.
“We are proud to be part of a network of regional technology pioneers advancing heath information exchange,” said Craig Brammer, CEO, The Health Collaborative. “It was the foresight of our local health systems leaders some 15 years ago that lead us to this place where we are viewed as leaders in collaborative digital health solutions.”
A complete list of awardees and more information about the High Impact Pilot program is available on the HHS website.
Heartland project partners include: the Indiana Health Information Exchange (IHIE), HealthLINC in Bloomington, IN, East Tennessee Health Information Network (etHIN), Great Lakes Health Connect (GLHC), Michiana Health Information Network (MHIN), The Kentucky Health Information Exchange (KHIE). More information about SHIEC and SHIEC members is available on the SHIEC Website.
The Health Collaborative would like to congratulate Cincinnati Childrens Hospital Medical center for being selected for a different project in the program. CCHMC will receive funding to pilot systems that will improve the ability of data from patient records to be used for research.
