A Raw And Intimate Look At How One Man Copes With His Mental Illness [video]
PHILADELPHIA, PA (PRWEB) October 05, 2016 -- OC87 Recovery Diaries producer and director, Glenn Holsten, teamed up with mental health advocate, Mike Veny to create a series of moving, humorous and innovative videos that share Mike’s lived experience with depression and other mental health challenges. The video series will appear on http://www.OC87RecoveryDiaries.com beginning October 5, 2016.
-- “A Real Man” (premiering October 5 on http://www.OC87RecoveryDiaries.com) is a documentary feature that tells the story of how Mike Veny decided to face his personal challenges (including depression and obsessive compulsive disorder) and become an outspoken mental health advocate.
“I don’t actually want to be a speaker. I just care about people not dying. Because so many people are dying because they are not addressing these issues,” says Veny in the film.
“A Real Man” depicts Veny as he searches for a true and healthy definition of masculinity. “For me, I grew up in an environment where a tough guy was like a thug. Or someone who was always in a fight or trouble. I think men in general are struggling to find what healthy masculinity is. I mean -- what is it?”
-- “Bluetooth Man” (premiering October 5 on http://www.OC87RecoveryDiaries.com) is a slightly humorous, slightly painful, raw look at the critical voices that Mike Veny experiences in his head as he tries to get through a typical “business as usual” day as a public speaker and entrepreneur.
-- “An Interview with My Depression” (premiering October 12 on http://www.OC87RecoveryDiaries.com) With the aid of a few technical tricks, Mike is able to meet, confront and question his depression – posing questions to himself that may be familiar to anyone who has experienced a similar journey.
“OC87 Recovery Diaries is proud to present the story of nationally known mental health public speaking advocate, Mike Veny. Mike deals courageously with anger and depression even though men like himself are often told that silence is strength. But Mike believes the opposite. He knows that silence leads many men down a path of anguish, pain—and even suicide.
We hope Mike’s message will inspire other men—and women to come forward too.” Bud Clayman, Editor in Chief at OC87 Recovery Diaries.
