We really wanted to remind our readers that there is hope by shining a spotlight on people who are actually winning their battle with mesothelioma.

Mesothelioma survivors do not accept their initial grim prognosis and tend to follow their instincts to seek out alternative ways to combat malignant mesothelioma. Those are just a few of the lessons on mesothelioma survival featured in a new article on the Surviving Mesothelioma website. Click here to read it now.
Relying on personal interviews with recent mesothelioma survivors, the new article highlights the multiple ways in which these survivors are combating their mesothelioma one day at a time.
“The doctors say I have this disease and there is not much that they can do for me, but they don’t know me,” says Jim McHutchison, a 3-year mesothelioma survivor from York, Maine, whose story helped inspire the article. “If you are an individual, fight your mesothelioma like an individual. You are not a statistic.”
Andy Ashcraft, a 6-year mesothelioma survivor from California who is also mentioned in the article, recommends staying open to alternative therapies, including clinical trials.
“Every time I go into my doctor and we do a scan, there is no change,” Ashcraft told Surviving Mesothelioma in an interview this Spring. “You gotta have faith and a positive attitude.”
“It can feel so hopeless to receive a mesothelioma diagnosis and to hear your doctor tell you that you have less than a year to live,” says Alex Strauss, Managing Editor for Surviving Mesothelioma. “But we really wanted to remind our readers that there is hope by shining a spotlight on people who are actually winning their battle with mesothelioma.”
