SCRAP40 Gala Celebrates 40 Years of Support for Teachers, Art, and the Environment
San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) October 04, 2016 -- October 20th is rapidly approaching, and with it, the SCRAP40 Gala Celebration. SCRAP40 marks the 40th anniversary of San Francisco’s unique icon of education, art and the environment, SCRAP. It will honor SCRAP’s founder and Jefferson Award winner, Anne Marie Theilen, as well as the staff and volunteers that have kept SCRAP a vital part of the community for four decades.
The evening will focus on reuse, education, art, food and fun. The zero-landfill event will be among the first to enliven the recently restored Bayview Opera House. While guests mingle in the Opera House’s grand ballroom, they will be surrounded by decorations made from reclaimed materials. Some will participate in making artful masks form reused materials. All will enjoy passed hors d’ oeuvres, fine wine and locally crafted beer while the Ruth Asawa School of the Arts Jazz Combo entertains. Throughout the evening, brief “TED-like” talks will provoke more conversation.
SCRAP40 is a benefit and celebration of SCRAP’s 40 years of helping teachers, artists, and the environment. Each year, nonprofit SCRAP diverts more than 200 tons of usable materials from landfill, and makes them available, at little or no cost, to thousands of teachers, artists, nonprofit organizations, and others. SCRAP also conducts workshops, classes and field trips for people of all ages.
Sponsors and supporters of SCRAP40 include the San Francisco Unified School District, San Francisco Department of the Environment, Fivepoint, SFArtsED, Tower Properties, Airbnb, Building Resources, Cole Hardware, Ultimate Cookie, FLAX Art and Design, and Germany-USA Career Center.
SCRAP40 is expected to sell out, so get your tickets soon. It takes place at the Bayview Opera House, 4705 Third Street, in San Francisco. SCRAP40 will start at 7:30 on October 20th, and will finish at 10 PM. Tickets donations range from $25 to $200, and are available at SCRAP40.eventbrite.com.
In conjunction with SCRAP40, SCRAP is sponsoring a show of art made from reclaimed materials. RECLAIMED: elevating the art of reuse, will show at the beautiful SF Arts Education Gallery at the Minnesota Street Project in San Francisco from October 1-23. The opening reception for this exciting, juried art show will be October 8th. There is no cost to attend. More info at scrapartshow.org.
