Babies want to participate and allowing them to work through decision-making helps them develop their potential.

In a hyper-connected world, parents are bombarded with parenting tips from hundreds of sources on a daily basis. Among these, books and bedtime stories have always been a vehicle that helps both entertain and teach. In “This or That: A Busy Morning,” authors Wendy Kronick and Susan Beauchene demonstrate how to encourage development and healthy attachment in an engaging manner by illuminating simple ways to help children participate in those everyday choices that they can make for themselves.
Following a young boy as he starts his day, “This or That: A Busy Morning” reaches out to both parents and children by illustrating ways in which young children can be invited to take a more active role in the everyday decisions that affect them. This model of choice, within established boundaries, promotes both competency and cooperation.
“Being a parent is hard work, and so is being a baby,” said Kronick. “Babies want to participate and allowing them to work through decision-making helps them develop their potential.”
After the birth of her own son, Kronick enrolled in RIE classes in an effort to better her parenting skills. The parent and caregiver lessons she learned in that class inspired her subsequent work in early childhood development. After spending almost 20 years facilitating progressive parenting classes, Wendy’s extensive experience working with parents, infants and toddlers led her to incorporate valuable lessons into fun, light-hearted children’s’ books.
“Babies are very competent – at being babies,” said Kronick. “We adults should appreciate their capabilities and be there to nurture and support them as much as possible.”
