Dr. Martin Lindenberg to Lead University of St. Thomas Houston McNair Center for Free Enterprise and Entrepreneurship
Houston, TX (PRWEB) October 05, 2016 -- The University of St. Thomas has appointed Dr. Martin Lindenberg, an entrepreneur and consultant, who has years of experience and success under his belt, to lead the McNair Center for Free Enterprise and Entrepreneurship.
"Dr. Lindenberg brings a unique blend of entrepreneurial experience, business success, and commitment to student learning to this role – making him a perfect fit for the Directorship of the Center," said Dr. Beena George, Dean of the Cameron School of Business.
Lindenberg, a native of Johannesburg, South Africa, can trace his entrepreneurial roots to his childhood.
“While I was growing up, I watched my dad take the family business from a tiny mom-and-pop operation of about a dozen employees, and over 30 years grow that to a 500-person company that was a brand name leader in South Africa,” Lindenberg said.
He spent his weekends and holidays working in the family business and learned much more than he realized at the time.
In college he earned a bachelors of science with honors in computer science and mathematical statistics at the University of Witwatersrand in South Africa. He went on to earn a MB.BCh., the South African equivalent of an M.D., before earning an MBA from the same university.
In his career, Lindenberg has served as chairman, CEO, president, vice president, director, manager, consultant analyst, salesman and employee for several companies and organizations. Most notably, he served as founding chairman of the Houston Technology Center. HTC has been named as one of “Ten Technology Incubators Changing the World” by Forbes Magazine.
Lindenberg is also the co-founder of Fannin Innovation Studio, an early-stage life sciences development group focused on commercializing innovations developed in the Texas Medical Center Institutions.
Prior to joining UST, Lindenberg served as a consultant for local businesses and non-profits and taught courses in entrepreneurship at University of Houston’s Bauer College of Business.
The principal purpose, research and public policy outputs of The McNair Center focus on the role of principled entrepreneurship in promoting economic growth, particularly as it relates to small businesses.
Specific activities of the McNair Center include:
• Formulating and overseeing an undergraduate minor in free enterprise and principled entrepreneurship
• Assembling policy fellows, scholars, research associates and graduate students for the discussion and study of free enterprise and principled entrepreneurship
• Hosting an annual symposium at which participants will converge to share knowledge and ideas about entrepreneurship
For Lindenberg, the benefits for the program extend to across the campus, from students studying business to those exploring the fine arts and sciences.
“There is a lot of fantastic creativity in today’s generation facilitated by the technology and connectivity of today’s world,” Lindenberg said. “I want to empower these people to be able to grow their own careers and help make the world a better place for themselves and the people involved with them.”

The McNair Center for Free Enterprise and Entrepreneurship will advance research and education on the role of private enterprise, individual initiative and entrepreneurship in fostering economic growth and human flourishing. The new center is being developed on the UST campus thanks to a $5 million gift from the Robert and Janice McNair Foundation.
