Whether it is a daily medication regimen or taking something as simple as an over-the-counter pain reliever, it is difficult to know what medications can be taken together and what might be harmful or even life threatening. According to a report from U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, adverse drug interactions cause at least 100,000 deaths each year and are the 4th leading cause of death in the United States.

Studies show that 1.5 million Americans are hurt each year by preventable medicine errors. Many people are unaware that over-the-counter (OTC) analgesics can cause potentially serious adverse effects when used in combination with other common medications. So what if there was a simple way to people recognize medication interactions which include over the counter products? MyRxProfile is an new app that can easily help people manage over-the-counter and prescription medications and interactions with other medications by checking drug information and interactions with simple scan of a bar code or typing your Rx prescription information. MyRxProfile allows a person to email their doctor directly their individual profile.

MyRxProfile founder, Robert Baker, realized there was a problem with people obtaining overall drug information after conducting a lengthy amount of research. As a pharmacist, Robert has had extensive patient interaction for over the last 30 years. This gave him great insight into what patients need to have –useful at hand knowledge of their medications. Some of the more important issues patients stressed were over the counter (OTC) interactions with their current medications, as well as interactions between their prescription medications. Patients also expressed the need to have an easily accessible list of all of their medications to present to their doctor – so they would know what their patient was taking and to have their own medication information on hand.

“After 30 years of seeing what patients needed and not finding it all in one place, I knew there was something that could be done about it. After conducting research and seeing that there just wasn’t anything like this app readily available, I started creating the MyRxProfile app. This is the perfect app for consumers and professionals to have and will greatly improve awareness of adverse drug interactions, which seems to be a significantly increasing problem and cause of death in our country.” –Robert Baker, MyRxProfile Creator.

According to FDA there are more than 100,000 deaths due to adverse drug reactions and the annual cost of adverse drug reactions is $136 Billion dollars. In addition, 50% of the 4.4 billion prescription medications that are dispensed in the United States are not taken correctly by patients.

The MyRxProfile app is simple and easy to use. Anyone can check for drug interactions with a simple swipe of their phone and scan of a bar code. People shouldn’t have to second guess whether or not they can take medications together. MyRxProfile has taken out the guess work – and made it simple to save lives!
