Mark's Pizzeria Donates $40,000 to a Local Childhood Cancer Charity
Fairport, N.Y. (PRWEB) October 05, 2016 -- September was National Childhood Cancer Awareness month. During the month of September Mark’s Pizzeria teamed up with CURE Childhood Cancer Association based in Rochester, New York to help raise awareness and funds for pediatric cancer patients and their families who live in the Upstate New York area. At each of the 48 Mark’s Pizzeria locations across Upstate New York, Mark’s Pizzeria employees wore Gold Shirts and displayed Gold Ribbon wrapped donation jugs on the front counters that encouraged customers to donate to the cause. In addition to these store level awareness efforts, Mark’s Pizzeria engaged in a Television & Newspaper charitable campaign along with online and social media charitable components to get the message out to their customers that September was National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and how their customers could get involved and Help.
The response received from customers and those families affected by Childhood Cancer were tremendous. Thanks in part to customer donations and a charitable contribution from Mark’s Pizzeria; CURE Childhood Cancer Association is being presented with a check for $40,000 at this Sunday’s 8th Annual Recipe for a CURE Sunday Brunch being held at The Radisson Hotel Rochester Riverside.
The donation will be used by CURE to help pediatric cancer patients in our area and their families with financial assistance during the most difficult times of pediatric cancer diagnoses, treatment and beyond.
When asked about the reasons Mark’s Pizzeria decided to get involved with Cure to Raise Awareness and funds for Childhood Cancer, Mark Crane, Founder and President of Mark’s Pizzeria said “We would do anything we could for the kids. We always have. We have been raising funds to help cancer patients across our area for over 20 years now. My Dad passed away from cancer so when one of my business partners (Dan Roberts) in the Pizzeria brought this opportunity to me it just seemed like a natural fit for our team to get involved with. Dan’s sister passed from cancer at age 10 as well. It’s just tough to talk about. I can’t even imagine what goes through the mind of a child who hears from their Doctor they have cancer and I can’t imagine the pain in the hearts of their parents either. If we can help them in their fight just a little bit, that’s what we want to do. We are honored and humbled by their determination and fight to kick cancer’s butt and we want them to know that we are here for them in any way we can help.”
