The Importance of the Foot and Ankle Program
Foot and ankle injuries are common in people across a range of lifestyles from top-performing athletes to sedentary individuals. In fact, 75 percent of Americans will experience some type of foot problem in their lifetime. Each year in the U.S., an estimated two million people are treated by orthopaedists for ankle injuries alone. Injuries that are not recognized or are improperly addressed can lead to significant functional disability. This may affect quality of life and in some cases impact one’s ability to accomplish everyday tasks.
“At the Foot and Ankle Program, at SRO” Dr. Schakel explains, “we work closely with SRO’s experienced physical therapists in order to determine the most effective treatment route based on the latest orthopedic and physical therapy research. I know from experience how complex some foot and ankle cases can be, and my experience motivates me to pay attention to the small details.”
The Foot and Ankle Program at SRO provides state-of-the-art care for all types of problems related to the foot and ankle. This includes, but is not limited to;
• trauma of the foot
• post-traumatic reconstruction of the foot and ankle
• foot deformities related to neuromuscular, arthritic and congenital conditions
• tendon injuries of the hind foot and ankle
• sports-related injuries
• foot complications of diabetes mellitus
The medical team at SRO’s Foot and Ankle program emphasizes the importance of a comprehensive evaluation in order to develop a proper diagnosis.
