Milgard Volunteers Landscape Habitat Home and Welcome Family
Tacoma, Wash. (PRWEB) October 05, 2016 -- Milgard® Windows & Doors employees visited a Tacoma/Pierce County Habitat for Humanity home twice in one month as they welcomed the new homeowners for a dedication ceremony in the same home that they provided landscaping for weeks earlier.
New Habitat homeowners Jesica Cariaga and Welson Kaliga, along with their 4 children, were pleased to finally move into their home. They had recently relocated from Hawaii to find better jobs in the Washington state area and learned about Habitat from a friend.
“We actually had to move out of a house in Hawaii because the landlord was moving back in,” said Cariaga. “My kids are going to see that since we own our own house, they should own their own house too. Hopefully it catches on and goes down the line, and each generation will know that owning their house is important and possible.”
“Milgard volunteers joined us for a day of volunteering at Swan Creek,” said Tracey Sorenson community engagement manager of Tacoma/Pierce County Habitat for Humanity “This group worked hard rolling sod and landscaping. Milgard has partnered with us for several years as a partial home sponsor in 2012, and by participating in Habitat Build Day last year as well.”
Milgard Style Line® Series vinyl windows were used on the home during the building process phase. When the house was ready for final touches, Milgard employees were on hand to provide their time and energy to make the yard look its best. The team pulled weeds, cleared the ground of all debris, added topsoil and finished it off with a layer of sod.
“This was my first time volunteering and the day went great, said Cheryl Jones, an accountant on the Milgard financial reporting team. “We all worked great as a team to accomplish our task of laying sod in the yard. Not to say it wasn’t work but the company we were surrounded by made it fun and the day went by so fast. Also, the Habitat staff and construction manager on the job were great to work with. I will definitely volunteer again.”
Milgard encourages their employees to volunteer on a variety of causes that touch their heart. Each plant location has a dedicated team in place to identify opportunities for the staff to volunteer their time or make donations throughout the year.
