UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School Graduates First Online Class of Master of Accounting Program
Chapel Hill, N.C. (PRWEB) October 10, 2016 -- The University of North Carolina Kenan-Flagler Business School graduated its inaugural class of students in the online offering of its Master of Accounting (MAC) Program on Oct. 8.
UNC Kenan-Flagler graduated its first MAC class in 1986 and launched the online format in 2015.
“We are celebrating 30 years of excellence in accounting education this year,” said Doug Shackelford (BSBA ’80), dean and Meade H. Willis Distinguished Professor of Taxation at UNC Kenan-Flagler. “With the online MAC format, we continue our success at using technology to enhance learning and access for students to a top accounting education.”
The innovative online format delivers an immersive experience and a unique combination of academic rigor and real-world experiential learning. It offers the same high-caliber curriculum, top faculty, student interaction and outstanding employment recruitment opportunities as the on-campus format.
Currently 100 students are enrolled in the online format, which attracts a diverse group of students – from recent graduates to working professionals to current and former military. It gives them the flexibility to advance their careers and enables the School to meet the demand from companies that want to hire them.
“You find our alumni at all of the Big 4 accounting firms, as well as at middle-market firms, global corporations, public-sector entities, startups and nonprofit organizations,” said Jana Raedy, associate dean of the MAC Program and associate professor and Ernst & Young Scholar in Accounting. “Carolina accounting graduates have a profound influence on the accounting profession, both nationally and internationally.”
One of those graduates gave the commencement address: Amy Baker (BSBA, MA ’93), EY assurance partner and the Carolinas Market Leader. Baker is an audit partner with more than 23 years of experience at EY, primarily focused on global companies in the manufacturing industry.
The 12 graduates are from California, Colorado, Florida, New York, North Carolina and Virginia. Currently almost 100 students are enrolled in the online format.
