Bercom International, manufacturer of HANDy Paint Products, announced the winners of this year’s Online Video Contest during the HANDy Paint Products Film Festival on Sept. 24, 2016 at the company’s Chanhassen, Minn. headquarters.
- Grand Prize Winner: “The Secret of the Artist” by Erik Gonzalez of Phoenix, Ariz. reveals the secret tool used by famous artists including Monet, da Vinci and Picasso to create their spectacular masterpieces. The tool? The HANDy Paint Pail of course!
- Second Place Finalist: “Fresh Prince of HANDy Paint Products” by Jordan Sovis of Owosso, Mich. features a comical take on the 1990’s television classic, trading in the lavish streets of Bel-Air for painting fences on a ranch.
- Third Place Finalist: “Eli Yee x HANDy Paint Products” by David Schell of Huntington Beach, Calif. shares one artist’s journey, keys to success and necessary tools to create the perfect painting.
To qualify for the contest, participants submitted short videos that demonstrated an original use of a HANDy Paint Product, including the HANDy Paint Pail, Paint Tray, Paint Cup, Pro Pail, Grid and Ladder Pail. The HANDy Paint Products Online Video Contest grand prize was $2,000, second place received $750 and third place received $250. The top three winners also each received a GoPro camera and all contest entrants received $50 worth of free HANDy Paint Products. Lastly, the Top 10 qualifiers have the opportunity to receive an additional $5,000 prize if they are able to make their video “go viral” on the HANDy Paint Products’ YouTube channel by the end of 2016 (e.g. with 50,000 views or more).
“This contest is designed to honor innovation, promote creativity and to have fun with HANDy Paint Products,” said Mark Bergman, founder and CEO of Bercom International. “We are thrilled to be celebrating the fifth year of the contest and are truly astounded at the level of talent showcased in the submissions this year.”
Tasked with evaluating the Top 10 video submissions were judges Kim Wells of Evine Live TV, Cynthia Dickison of the Minneapolis Star Tribune, and blogging duo Morgan and Jamie Molitor of Construction2Style. As part of the tradition of the Film Festival, donations made at the event were given to a local charity, which this year was the Minnesota chapter of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The 2016 Film Festival generated more than $9,000 in funds for the charity.
“We’re proud to partner with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society for this year’s Film Festival,” said Bergman. “Knowing that donations made at this event will help support families impacted by these illnesses is incredibly important to our team at Bercom International.”
