InterDev, an Atlanta-area provider of information technology, security and geographic information service (GIS) services, today announced it has become a Maptiks partner. InterDev is deploying the mapping analytics solution for its customers and incorporating it as part of its Esri-based Mosaic GIS cloud platform.
Based on a principle similar to Google Analytics, Maptiks monitors a unique identifier inserted into the code of each web-based map. Maptiks then tracks and reports on user and site activity, securely and in real time. Designed for developers, managers and other GIS system stakeholders, Maptiks provides the insight and information to make better decisions and be more responsive to changing needs.
“Map analytics provides geographic intelligence that aids in both current and future planning and decision making,” said InterDev CEO Gary Nichols. “As an example, our municipal clients can take specific action when they learn that certain sections or features of the city are becoming focuses for large numbers of area residents or businesses.”
Maptiks is a comprehensive map analytics solution that offers detailed information on a variety of metrics, both user and system. On the user side, metrics include:
- Average activities per visit
- Average visitor duration
- User pans and zooms
- User devices
- Daily and weekly usage
- Overall map activity
On the system side, Maptiks reports on metrics such as:
- Bounce rates
- Base layer load times
- Layer load times
- Error logs
“Mapping without understanding the user experience is like building a computer without knowing if—or how—people will use it,” said Nichols. “With Maptiks, governments and businesses can discover not only how visitors use their maps, but if they love them and find them truly useful.”
