BABALU to Hold Pop Up Taco Shop in Honor of Jackson Resident Battling Leukemia
Jackson, MS (PRWEB) October 10, 2016 -- Coping with a life-threatening disease is difficult. Life centers around clinical visits, treatments, hospital stays, and medical bills. Treatments are a costly, but a necessary expense for the Mack's family.
On Wednesday, October 12, Babalu Tapas & Tacos will host Taylor’s Taco Shop. Proceeds from the all-day pop up restaurant will benefit Taylor Mack, a four-year-old Jackson resident with acute lymphoblastic leukemia, also known as ALL. The most common childhood cancer, ALL is type of cancer of the blood and bone marrow that affects white blood cells.
Taylor was diagnosed with ALL in September 2015 at the age of three. Doctors predict she will need between 2-3 years of treatment. Taylor takes a daily chemotherapy pill in addition to monthly intravenous treatments. Taylor’s leukemia is currently in remission, but she still requires another 18 months of maintenance treatment to prevent a recurrence.
“Before Taylor’s diagnosis, she was just a country girl who loved outdoor activities. She loves football. She is a rough, tough little girl,” says Taylor’s mother Theresa. “After her diagnosis, she has very much become the princess. She gives me strength. She never complains. She has been such a big girl throughout this whole situation. She wants other children who are sick to know that they can get better too.”
For Justin Courson, general manager of Babalu Fondren, helping families through the Taco Shop events is one of the highlights of his job. “I am blessed to be a part of a family that reaches out to help the community and focuses on making an impact on its people. After three years of doing this event myself, I still get really excited to meet these amazing families. Taylor and her family are very uplifting and genuine. This is such a great cause and the Babalu Family is excited to sell Taylor's Taco.”
BABALU will donate $1 for every taco sold during Taylor’s Taco Shop to help alleviate the cost of Taylor’s medical expenses.
