Hospice of Westchester Honors Outstanding Supporters at “In Celebration” Gala Cocktail Reception
White Plains, NY (PRWEB) October 10, 2016 -- Hospice of Westchester (HOW) recently hosted its annual “In Celebration” Gala Cocktail Reception, honoring two outstanding couples and one individual for their commitment to furthering the nonprofit’s mission of striving to provide extraordinary and dignified comfort, care and compassion to individuals and families facing a serious or life-limiting illness. The event was held on September 29 at Westchester Country Club in Rye.
The event honored Karen and Peter Herrero (Proprietors, Sam’s of Gedney Way), Paul T. Khoury, MD (Medical Director, Radiology, White Plains Hospital), and Jennifer and Ralph Watts (Former Board Chair and Philanthropic Supporters), with a special tribute to Anna L. Shereff, founder of The Anna and Louis H. Shereff Caregiver and Complementary Care Programs at HOW. The honorees were recognized for their steadfast commitment and ongoing support of the organization.
The “In Celebration” event co-chairs were James P. O’Toole, former Board Chair and event emcee, William F. Flooks, Jr., former Board Chair, Betsy Hills Bush and Susan Yubas, Board Chair. During the event, O’Toole and Flooks thanked sponsors, contributors, guests and honorees for their continued support of HOW and its programs and services. Susan Yubas thanked the board of directors and those in attendance for their part in making the evening a great success.
Mary K. Spengler, MS, HOW’s chief executive officer, expressed her gratitude to the staff and volunteers for their unwavering commitment to the organization’s patients and families. She shared anecdotes which illustrated the profound effect the HOW team has on those they serve, and the importance of continued funding to ensure the quality of care provided by HOW does not waver despite budget cuts and changing reimbursement policies.
“Though we can never fully thank our honorees and supporters enough for their strong devotion to our organization and our mission, it was truly a delight to celebrate them with this incredible evening,” Spengler said.
Proceeds from the event have been earmarked for The Anna & Louis H. Shereff Caregiver and Complementary Care Programs. The organization’s Complementary Care Programs provide alternative therapies such as music therapy, art therapy and massage therapy, along with Reiki and reflexology, to those receiving hospice care. These therapies can help to alleviate pain, stress and anxiety, and are offered to all HOW patients free of charge due to the generosity and vision of Anna L. Shereff and supporters of “In Celebration”.
The Grand Sponsor for this year’s event was Anna L. Shereff. Signature Sponsors included Betsy and Steven Bush, Betsy and Graham Broyd, Jennifer and Ralph Watts and White Plains Hospital. Premier Sponsors were The Hildegarde D Becher Foundation, Inc., Grassy Sprain Pharmacy and VNS Westchester. Michele Fraser Geller was the Entertainment & Honoree Gift Sponsor.
