Montrose Travel Manager Wins ASTA Award for Work with Displaced Families
Montrose, CA (PRWEB) October 11, 2016 -- Melissa Truskett, Manager of Montrose Travel’s Groups, Meetings & Incentives Division, has been nationally recognized by The American Society of Travel Agents (ASTA)’s “Extra Mile” award.
Dedicated to recognizing “a travel agent who has gone the extra mile to provide exceptional service in a new and creative way that goes above and beyond the normal course of business”; the annual award, previously referred to as Travel Agent of the Year, is a highly sought after commendation among the thousands of travel agents & agencies associated with ASTA.
“I was shocked.” said Melissa, “It means so much to me to be recognized by ASTA. It was an amazing team effort and I feel privileged to have worked with such great people!”
Melissa received the award, as well as a standing ovation, on September 28, 2016 among her peers and fellow travel agents at the end of the 3-day ASTA Global Convention at the Peppermill Resort in Reno, NV.
Melissa and a number of the Montrose Travel Management Team were in attendance at the Convention to show their appreciation of ASTA’s continued advocacy of travel agents.
With over 20 years in the travel industry – all of which are with Montrose Travel – Melissa’s exemplary work with the SoCal Gas Project began in late 2015 with auditing and post-project efforts that are still ongoing today.
“I’m beyond proud of Melissa and the entire Montrose Travel team. It’s our deep dedication to caring for our customers that makes Montrose Travel special”, said Joe McClure. “As a company, we continue to invest in both our local and the travel communities. Being recognized by ASTA for our SoCal Gas Project is a true testament to this investment.”
About the SoCal Gas Project
In just a few short months – from December 2015 to May of 2016 – and after numerous additions and extensions to the project, over 1,000 families were relocated due to a toxic gas leak in Southern California.
With Melissa at the helm and more than 30 Montrose Travel employees from a variety of divisions and departments, the agency was able to manage this project in addition to conducting business as usual. Montrose Travel as a whole came together to help these families – many of which sent gift baskets, handwritten letters, Yelp reviews, and phone calls expressing their gratitude.
