According to a recent InfoTrack study of business decision-makers, the percent of US Enterprises (firms with 500 or more employees) and SMBs (firms with fewer than 500 employees) that reported completing trials of Skype for Business with Enterprise Voice jumped by 42% and 33%, respectively, as compared with last year. In addition, these decision-makers indicated that their top reason for selecting Skype for Business with Enterprise Voice is “Skype for Business with Enterprise Voice is a natural extension of our commitment to the Microsoft platform for UC.”
InfoTrack, a division of T3i Group, recently published InfoTrack for Unified Communications: Impact of Microsoft Skype for Business on the Enterprise Voice Market. The study analyzes the status of companies’ plans to trial and implement Microsoft Skype for Business with Enterprise Voice. It also analyzes the correlation between satisfaction with Microsoft UC applications and plans to implement Skype for Business Enterprise Voice.
“Many of our studies have shown that business customers look for best of breed applications and will purchase from multiple companies when necessary to achieve that outcome. Microsoft is changing this behavior by providing highly satisfactory UC platforms and applications thus making it increasingly likely it will become the major if not single source of UC apps for many companies,” said Ken Dolsky, Program Director for IUC (InfoTrack for Unified Communications) and co-leader of this study.
The report corroborates this top down finding by correlating customer preferences for Microsoft UC applications to Skype for Business with Enterprise Voice deployments. Among the enterprises that are currently deploying or have deployed Microsoft EV on-premises, 43% rank Microsoft as their top vendor for at least three of the six most common UC apps. Microsoft scores even better among the SMBs that are currently deploying, as 57% of them rank Microsoft best for three or more of these six UC apps.
The report also examines customer plans to use Microsoft Cloud PBX and finds similar customer strategies. Among enterprises and SMBs that are currently using or planning to use MS Cloud PBX for Enterprise Voice, their top reasons for that decision were, “Our company is already using Office 365” and “MS Cloud PBX offers a natural migration from our current enterprise voice solution.” Other data in the report corroborates these principles by showing that over 90% of the entities that are deciding to use Microsoft’s Cloud PBX were already customers of other Microsoft EV platforms.
“The two most important findings from this study are the continuing increase in momentum of customers trialing and deploying Skype for Business with Enterprise Voice and the power of Microsoft’s UC platform to support this strategy. This is something we have not seen with many other UC providers,” said Terry White, study co-leader and founder of the InfoTrack for Unified Communications program.
The research also explored reasons for and against implementing Skype for Business with Enterprise Voice both on premises and in the cloud, deployment strategies that range from equipping selected individuals to company-wide implementation, customer perceptions of Skype for Business Enterprise Voice capabilities, customer perspectives on costs, preferences for and perceptions of Microsoft channel partners, preferred licensing arrangements, impact of Cisco Spark on enterprise decisions regarding MS Cloud PBX and Office 365 and customer usage/status of other EV-related Office 365 services.
