“Oriental Trading Company is pleased to sponsor the Teal Pumpkin Project. We want every child to have fun on Halloween!" Sam Taylor, CEO of Oriental Trading Company

Every child should be able to experience the joy and tradition of trick-or-treating on Halloween, but those with food allergies are often left out of the fun. That’s where the Teal Pumpkin Project® comes in. A household with a teal-colored pumpkin on their doorstep signifies that they are offering non-food treats. Oriental Trading Company is partnering with Food Allergy Research & Education (FARE) to support the project and promote health and safety for all children during the Halloween season.
This year, FARE has a goal to have at least one home on every block in the U.S. with a teal pumpkin. Last year, tens of thousands of households from all 50 states and 14 countries participated.
Participating in the campaign is as simple as buying inexpensive non-food treats such as glow sticks or small toys and placing a teal pumpkin on your doorstep to show non-food treats are available. Those who do not have a teal pumpkin can still participate by handing out non-food treats and hanging a poster which can be downloaded for free from the Teal Pumpkin Project website.
“Oriental Trading is pleased to sponsor the Teal Pumpkin Project,” said Sam Taylor, Chief Executive Officer for Oriental Trading. “We want every child to have fun on Halloween! We have hundreds of items on our website that can be handed out by anyone who is committed to providing non-food treats for those children who cannot have candy.”
Launched in 2014 by FARE, the Teal Pumpkin Project provides an alternative for kids with food allergies, as well as other children for whom candy is not an option, and keeps Halloween a fun, positive experience.
“We are so pleased with the overwhelmingly positive response to the Teal Pumpkin Project campaign and are especially appreciative of the support from all of our partners, which will lead to even bigger success and greater participation,” said Lois A. Witkop, FARE’s Chief Advancement Officer. “These efforts help us create a widespread understanding of the severity of food allergies and the impact that this disease has on millions of children. Together, we can help ensure a safer, happier Halloween for all.”
