Scams Can Now Be Detected Using Artificial Intelligence

Montreal-based "Whycall.me", a consumer protection site, has finished the final testing phase of its latest Artificial Intelligence scam detection algorithm that was created with the support of the Canadian government program "Scientific Research and Experimental Development" (SR&ED).

Montreal-based "Whycall.me", a consumer protection site, has finished the final testing phase of its Artificial Intelligence scam detection algorithm that was created with the support of the Canadian government program "Scientific Research and Experimental Development" (SR&ED).

The algorithm reads the comments submitted by consumers, analyzes the contents and automatically alerts the consumer if a scam is taking place.

"We built the system after the recent surge in fake IRS calls. The consumers would describe the calls, but many remained unsure if the caller was a scammer or a real IRS employee.

Unfortunately many consumers would end up sending money because they weren't warned that the caller is a fake." explains Alex Durant, the founder and head engineer at http://whycall.me

"When the system makes a match with a certain degree of certainty it will automatically display a relevant video at the very top of the page, so it's the very first thing the consumer sees when landing on the page" claims Durant.

Scam detection 2.0

The founder believes that the system can transform the way scams are detected online.

"Our system is 98% accurate and can be implemented anywhere where people comment including sites like Facebook, Youtube and Twitter"

The AI currently detects 5 scams including: "IRS, Fake Debt Collectors, Credit Services scam, Craigslist scam and the Tech Support Scam".

The founder intends to extend the scam detection system to other languages like Spanish and add additional scams to the current database.

Whycall.me was launched in 2011 and receives an average of 1500 daily reports from consumers in United States and Canada.
