New World Medical Announces Humanitarian Initiatives at AAO 2016
Chicago, Illinois (PRWEB) October 16, 2016 -- New World Medical announced two new humanitarian initiatives during their annual breakfast meeting at the American Academy of Ophthalmology’s 2016 annual meeting in Chicago. Building on the company’s 25-year history of providing unlimited no-charge products for patients unable to afford care, these initiatives are designed to support medical missions that deliver cutting edge eye care while also promoting the transfer of surgical skills from highly trained providers to local peers.
The New World Medical Humanitarian Grant provides $50,000 in funding each year to non-profit or academic institutions providing ophthalmic care and training in developing health systems. The New World Medical Fellowship Award offers $10,000 in travel support annually to a glaucoma fellow dedicated to making global humanitarian work an integral part of their careers.
“New World Medical’s mission is to preserve and enhance vision by delivering innovations to all of humanity,” said Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Bilal Khan. “As an organization, we are dedicated to supporting medical missions focusing on patients with limited means. But more than that, we want to promote the transfer of surgical skills to local providers with an eye towards creating self-sustained systems for delivering world-class ophthalmic care. Our new humanitarian initiatives are designed to empower ophthalmologists similarly committed to the democratization of surgical excellence globally.”
New World Medical is now taking applications for these new initiatives. For more information, including eligibility criteria and how to apply, please visit New World Medical’s website at http://www.newworldmedical.com.
