Culture Shock Miami Presents Its 12th Season Providing Miami-Dade Students with Expanded Access to $5 Tickets for Cultural Events
Miami, Florida (PRWEB) October 25, 2016 -- Building on the record growth of participation by both student attendees and participating arts and cultural institutions, Culture Shock Miami announces an increase in co-productions with partner organizations and an increase in the number of available $5 tickets to its audience (students ages 13 to 22) to cultural events in the 2016-17 season.
Culture Shock Miami, the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs’ program to cultivate the audiences of the future, is co-presenting performances with FUNDarte, Miami-Dade County Auditorium, South Miami-Dade Cultural Arts Center and the Department’s education initiative All Kids Included .
Among the shows co-presented by Culture Shock Miami for 2016-17 are stellar companies of dance, music, theater, and performance art. Dance companies include Casa Patas Foundation from Madrid, Spain performing Flamenco! Los Silencios del Baile and internationally acclaimed dance ensembles Limón Dance Company, Aspen Santa Fe Ballet, and MOMIX. Performance artists are highlighted by techno wizard illusionist Adam Trent, and the world renowned Peking Acrobats. Diverse music programs feature the dazzling Bollywood musical Taj Express, from the creators of Pitch Perfect, the a cappella chart-topping group Vocalocity, and the movie-based percussive high-stepping hit DRUMline Live. Theatrical experiences are delivered by the improvisational lyrical virtuosos, Mayhem Poets and a unique film that features shadow puppetry, live music, and actors in silhouette, Manual Cinema: Lula del Ray.
Through its website, CultureShockMiami.com, the program enables young adults, ages 13 to 22, to attend live performances at just $5 per ticket, and to visit major museums and cultural destinations at $2.50 per admission pass. All tickets and passes which are often for the best available seats, are provided by local cultural organizations and sold through CultureShockMiami.com free of any taxes, fees, or surcharges. A student in the program’s age range must use the first ticket purchased, but the second ticket can be used by a person of any age.
Michael Spring, Senior Advisor to the Office of the Mayor of Miami-Dade County and Director of the Department of Cultural Affairs, stated “It is gratifying to see the commitment by our local organizations, both independently and through Culture Shock Miami, to offer students the opportunity to participate in the arts. This past season has seen an increase of 35% in the number of $5 tickets purchased by students. As intended, the program is removing economic barriers, providing high quality arts access to students and cultivating audiences of the future.”
More than 70,000 tickets have been sold through CultureShockMiami.com since its inception in 2004. These tickets have been donated by over 100 institutions throughout Miami-Dade County including Actors’ Playhouse, Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts, African Heritage Cultural Arts Center, Cleveland Orchestra Miami, Dranoff 2 Piano Foundation, Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden, Florida Grand Opera, GableStage, Florida International University, Lowe Art Museum, Miami City Ballet, Miami-Dade County Auditorium, Miami Symphony Orchestra, New World Symphony, Perez Art Museum of Miami-Dade, South Miami-Dade Cultural Arts Center, Vizcaya Museum and Gardens, and ZooMiami.
