Hersha Hospitality Trust is Taking an Environmental Approach to Hospitality, Cutting Water Usage by Half
San Diego, California (PRWEB) October 20, 2016 -- Sustainability is a team effort at Hersha Hospitality Trust. Both the ownership team and the management team work together on environmental endeavors. The company tackled drought restrictions at one of their California hotels by cutting water usage in half—and set the standard for sustainable hospitality as well as fully integrated community and environmental policies.
The company’s EarthView program is focused on cultivating new concepts for sustainable hospitality at all of their major markets, which include New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., Miami, Los Angeles, and San Diego. “Focusing on sustainability not only aligns with our company’s core values, but it is also a strategic move. Sustainability and financial success are not mutually exclusive—you can run a profitable business and be environmentally conscious at the same time,” says Bennett Thomas, the Senior Vice President of Finance and Sustainability.
The ambitious sustainability goals set by Thomas and Dave Campbell, Director of Engineering, have been impressively achieved. Since its implementation, Hersha’s EarthView has saved more than 57 million gallons of water, reduced carbon emissions by 16 percent, and reduced waste by 45 percent.
