ChopChop Kids, the non-profit behind the award-winning ChopChop: The Fun Cooking Magazine for Families has partnered with the Wyoming Department of Education and the Wyoming Department of Health to educate children about the importance of healthy eating. ChopChop Magazine will be distributed to third graders in 122 elementary schools in Wyoming for the 2016-17 school year. In addition, each issue includes curricula for teachers to use ChopChop in the classroom.
“Research shows that good nutrition and physical activity contribute to improved academic performance, attendance rates, and behavior,” said Tamra Jackson, Nutrition Programs State Director of the Wyoming Department of Education. “We are pleased to be able to provide ChopChop Magazine through the CDC grant to help increase nutrition and overall wellness awareness to the students in Wyoming’s schools.”
In support of the Wyoming school district’s wellness program, ChopChop offers the students and their families recipes and tips on how to cook real food together for a lifetime of health and well being. To reinforce the importance of healthy eating and nutrition education, teachers will also receive lesson plans that link cooking and nutrition to language arts, math, science, history and social studies.
“We are thrilled to partner with Wyoming schools,” said Sally Sampson, Founder and President of ChopChop. “We recently piloted a program in Watertown, Massachusetts, where elementary students received ChopChop for a full year. We found that the students eating and cooking habits were positively impacted and we’re confident we will have the same positive results in Wyoming.”
