ButterflyBoard is a lightweight transforming whiteboard that snaps together like a booklet using ultra strong neodymium magnets. Designed and made in Japan for ultimate portability, ButterflyBoard launches worldwide via Indiegogo.

Take creativity everywhere with ButterflyBoard.

Whiteboards are great for ideation, but we generally can't use them on-the-go. Because ideas can come anywhere, not just during meetings, we designed the ButterflyBoard to enable creativity and innovation without limits.

Whiteboards are commonplace in today’s workplaces and classrooms, but many of them tend to be big and heavy with limited portability. Because ideas can come anywhere, not just during scheduled brainstorm sessions, a startup team in Japan designed ButterflyBoard - a lightweight and portable whiteboard that can transform to fit the user's needs.

ButterflyBoard is available worldwide now via Indiegogo. This is the startup's first step outside of Japan, where the product has already been wildly successful, raising 855 percent of their crowdfunding goal in 2015.

With this campaign, the ButterflyBoard team hopes to showcase Made in Japan quality to people all over the world. The funds raised through Indiegogo will go to fine-tuning analog product development to achieve the highest quality possible. In addition, the ButterflyBoard team hopes to make future versions of ButterflyBoard an IoT device.

ButterflyBoard uses snap binding technology (patent pending), which utilizes strong neodymium magnets on one edge to snap two or more boards together to create a booklet-like note-taking and brainstorming tool. Snap binding eliminates the need for ring binding - used by other "whiteboard notebooks" - which takes up space and is not scalable. Snapping and pulling apart two ButterflyBoards is a simple and sturdy process, making the pages very flexible.

The key features of ButterflyBoard are:

  • Portable: ButterflyBoard is lighter and thinner than a regular notebook. Innovate anywhere.
  • Scalable: Connect multiple pages without any gaps with ButterflyBoard’s magnetic binding.
  • Flexible: Special magnets allow users to separate, rotate and reconnect pages as they see fit.
  • Sharable: Use ButterflyBoard like a notebook when alone, or brainstorm together in a group.
  • Searchable: Write, save your notes digitally, erase, write again. Don’t be limited by the pages of a notebook. Review and share their ideas anytime, anywhere.

ButterflyBoards are a great addition to creative brainstorms in the classroom or in the workplace, and they allow anyone to present their ideas on the spot in a scalable and collaborative way.

“Whiteboards are great for ideation, but we generally can't use them on-the-go,” said Hidehiko Fukushima, founder and CEO of ButterflyBoard. “Because ideas can come anywhere, not just during meetings, we designed the ButterflyBoard to enable creativity and innovation without limits.”

One ButterflyBoard package contains: One set of four ButterflyBoards (eight pages total), and four unique dry erase pens - one ultra thin 0.5mm black pen, and three regular 1.0mm pens in black, blue and red. All ButterflyBoard packages come with a case with a pen-holder attached.

The ultra thin 0.5mm dry erase pen specially designed for ButterflyBoard is thinner and smoother than almost anything on the market and perfect for taking detailed notes.

About ButterflyBoard: The ButterflyBoard project began in 2013, when Hidehiko Fukushima, the company’s founder and CEO, realized that whiteboards were the key to problem-solving and innovation during brainstorm meetings. The team developed the product in 2014, focusing on quality and product design with their unique magnetic snap binding and an ultra smooth writing experience. In Japan, their crowdfunding campaign in 2015 exceeded their goal by 855%, raising 2.7 million yen. Today, the Butterfly project is available all over the world via Indiegogo.
